microPumps
Micropumps are active devices embedded in-line or on-line of the microfluidic chip to generate a microfluidic laminar flow. Under optimised conditions, the micropumps should be small enough and also should provide low pulsation non-turbulent flow with low energy consumption. The actual actuation component geometries are different than larger ones like pressure-pumps or syringe pumps. In the case of micropumps the most common ones relie on optical, piezoelectric, and electromagnetic forces.
